Texas Woman Used Instagram to Lure Teens to Their Deaths
By Alex Morgan. Jun 9, 2026
Her Last Message Said ‘Wait.’ Minutes Later, They Were Dead.
On the night of July 29, 2022, Gregorio Ricardo Cordova-Mejia, 19, and Angelray Garcia, 15, drove to the Union Pines Apartments on San Antonio’s South Side. They had been communicating with a girl on Instagram who had asked them to come by. Her last message to Cordova-Mejia told him to ‘wait’ - that she was ‘stepping out.’
Minutes later, shots rang out. Both young men were killed.
The girl on Instagram was Angie Morales, who was 17 at the time. Police arrested her on May 26, 2026 - almost four years later.
What Investigators Found
The case went unresolved for years. Then San Antonio detectives reviewed data recovered from Cordova-Mejia’s phone and found the Instagram messages leading up to his death. The messages showed that he had been in contact with Morales’ account in the minutes before he was shot.
According to an arrest affidavit, an informant told investigators that Morales had used Instagram to communicate with the victims and lure them to the apartment complex, where they would be ‘robbed and subsequently killed’ by individuals Morales ‘colluded with.’ The affidavit states that Morales ‘acted in concert’ with multiple other suspects, none of whom have been arrested.
Who Angie Morales Is
Angie Morales was 17 years old when Cordova-Mejia and Garcia were killed. She is now 21. San Antonio police took her into custody on May 26, 2026, and she was charged with capital murder of multiple persons - a charge that, in Texas, is eligible for the death penalty or life without parole.
A Bexar County judge set her bond at $250,000.
Morales has not entered a plea. The other individuals identified in the affidavit as participants in the killings have not been charged.
The Victims
Gregorio Ricardo Cordova-Mejia was 19 years old. Angelray Garcia was 15. They died in a parking lot at an apartment complex on San Antonio’s South Side, shot during what investigators describe as a planned robbery ambush.
Their families have waited nearly four years for anyone to be held accountable. An arrest has now been made in the case, but with multiple co-conspirators still uncharged and Morales awaiting trial, the legal process is far from over.
Why This Case Reflects a Larger Pattern
The use of social media to set up violent crimes has become a documented law enforcement concern across the country. In this case, the platform was Instagram and the victims were teenagers who believed they were responding to a social invitation.
SAPD investigators recovered the evidence from a phone - digital records that preserved the final minutes of communication before the shooting. That evidence took nearly four years to result in an arrest.
For the families of Gregorio Ricardo Cordova-Mejia and Angelray Garcia, the arrest of Angie Morales is one step. The people who allegedly pulled the triggers have not been named.
