Mark Sanchez Stabbed 4 Times - Now Faces Prison
By Alex Morgan. Jun 30, 2026
Mark Sanchez was stabbed four times outside an Indianapolis hotel last fall. Nearly nine months later, he’s the one who could go to prison.
Jury selection in the former NFL quarterback’s criminal trial is set to begin July 13 in Indiana, prosecutors confirmed this week, after a string of delays pushed the case from December into the summer.
A Fight Over a Parking Spot
The case stems from an October 4, 2025, altercation outside the Westin hotel in downtown Indianapolis, where Sanchez was working as a broadcaster for Fox Sports. According to a police affidavit, Sanchez, who officers said smelled of alcohol, confronted 69-year-old truck driver Perry Tole over where Tole had parked, then blocked and shoved him twice. Surveillance video reviewed by detectives shows Sanchez throwing Tole toward a wall.
Stabbed, Then Charged
Tole told investigators he used pepper spray, and when Sanchez kept advancing, pulled a knife in self-defense, stabbing him multiple times in the torso. Sanchez was hospitalized in critical condition and spent roughly a week recovering. Tole was also treated for a facial laceration and has not been charged; he has since filed a civil suit against Sanchez and Fox Sports.
Sanchez faces a felony battery charge that carries up to six years in prison, along with misdemeanor counts including public intoxication and unauthorized entry of a vehicle.
Off the Air
Fox Sports cut ties with Sanchez on November 7, replacing him with Drew Brees. “I’m just focused on my recovery,” Sanchez told a local station as he left the hospital, declining to address the allegations directly.
Trial Finally Set to Begin
The trial date has shifted four times since the incident. With jury selection now scheduled for next month, Sanchez, a 10-year NFL veteran who quarterbacked the Jets, Eagles, Cowboys, and Commanders, will finally have to answer the charges in court.
