This holiday season, 600 booksellers across the U.S. are receiving $500 bonuses, thanks to Patterson’s generosity. These bonuses aim to acknowledge the crucial role booksellers play in communities. Recipients were selected from thousands of nominations submitted by co-workers, customers, and local readers.

Winners include staffers from iconic stores like San Francisco’s City Lights Books and local favorites such as The Nook in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Thank You Books in Birmingham, Alabama. Among those honored are Davis Gustafson, Erin Messer, and Gina Marx, who were celebrated for their hard work and impact.

As reported by The Associated Press, Patterson reiterated his admiration for booksellers, stating, “Booksellers save lives. Period.” His appreciation extends beyond financial support, with recognition of the vital role they play in promoting literacy and community engagement.
