Virginia Dad Allegedly Kills Mom's Fiancé and Friend in Front of Kids

A child custody exchange at a designated safe zone in Vinton, Virginia, turned into a gruesome crime scene when a father allegedly shot and killed two men in front of his children. Authorities say 45-year-old Jordan Daniel Pierce fired 13 rounds at the victims, including his children’s mother’s fiancé, before being taken into custody.

Deadly Shooting at a ‘Safe Exchange’ Zone

The incident occurred on March 2, 2025, in the rear parking lot of the Vinton Municipal Building, where the police department is located. This location serves as a safe exchange zone intended for child custody and e-commerce transactions.

According to court records, Pierce was dropping off his three sons to their mother when he allegedly opened fire, killing Jeffrey Alan Catron, 31, and Brian Christian Sledd, 29. Both men were at the scene with the mother of Pierce’s sons. Catron was engaged to the children’s mother, while Sledd was described as an acquaintance.

Police Arrive to Find Suspect Still at the Scene

The shooting reportedly happened in front of multiple witnesses, including the children, their mother, and two Roanoke County firefighters. When officers arrived, Pierce was still at the scene and was taken into custody without incident. He is currently being held without bond at the Roanoke County Jail, awaiting his next court date.

Pierce is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two firearm-related charges.

At this time, investigators have not provided information on any prior conflicts between Pierce and the victims. It remains unclear what circumstances led to the shooting.
