The ongoing feud between Trace Cyrus and his father, country star Billy Ray Cyrus, has reportedly escalated to potential legal action. Trace, 35, recently made headlines after publicly pleading with his father to seek help, a move that, according to him, prompted Billy Ray to threaten legal action.
A Public Plea Turned Legal Battle?
Trace Cyrus took to Instagram to share his concerns about his father. According to Billboard, in his post, Trace expressed deep frustration over their family dynamic and his concerns for his father’s health, saying, “You’re not healthy, Dad and everyone is noticing it,” as reported by Yahoo! Entertainment. However, instead of reconciliation, Trace alleges that Billy Ray responded by threatening legal action against him.
Trace’s concerns were reportedly sparked after watching Billy Ray perform at the Trump Inauguration, where the country star’s gruff voice and visibly frustrated reaction to audio technical issues raised alarm among fans. Many labeled the performance a “train wreck,” with some expressing concerns over his well-being, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In his original post, Trace referenced this performance, stating that he barely recognized his father and urging him to accept help. Trace emphasized that his message came from a place of love, though he refrained from sharing further details about his father’s struggles publicly.
In his second post, he responded to Billy Ray’s decision to take legal action, calling it a “disgrace” and expressing disappointment in his father’s refusal to acknowledge the issue, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Billy Ray’s second ex-wife, Firerose, also spoke out, telling the New York Post that Billy Ray’s current public struggles mirror what she experienced privately during their short marriage from 2023 to 2024. “It’s very sad to see those same struggles continue for him, but I’m glad the truth is coming to light - for his potential good because healing is only possible when you confront the truth and accept there’s a problem,” she said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Family Rift Comes to Light
The rift between Trace and Billy Ray has been an ongoing issue, with Trace hinting at longstanding struggles within their family. His recent post suggested that Billy Ray’s behavior has been a concern for a while, but it was unclear what specifically led Trace to make his concerns public instead of private. While the details of the alleged legal action remain unknown, Trace’s social media statements indicate a deep divide between father and son.
Billy Ray’s Silence
Billy Ray has yet to publicly respond to his son’s allegations or confirm whether he plans to take legal action. However, he did address his inauguration performance on Instagram, expressing that he thoroughly enjoyed the experience despite the technical difficulties.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Billy Ray wrote, “I had a ball at the Liberty Ball last night and I’ve learned through all these years when the producer says ‘you’re on,’ you go entertain the folks even if the equipment goes to hell… I was there for the people and we had a blast. That’s called rock n roll!!!” He added that he wouldn’t have turned down the opportunity to perform, regardless of the sound issues, emphasizing, “I was there because President Donald J. Trump invited me.”
For now, the public can only watch as the drama between father and son continues to unfold in the spotlight.
