Determined Sister Cracks Murder Case After 9 Days
By Nikki Thrace. Jul 16, 2025
On a quiet summer day in Pennsylvania, a woman’s disappearance turned into a chilling mystery - and it wasn’t the police who solved it. It was her determined sister, who refused to stop looking.
The Missing Call That Changed Everything
On June 20, 33-year-old Katlyn Harp missed her daily phone call with her sister, Heather Lane. That was unusual. Even stranger, her location on Life360 hadn’t updated since the previous day.
Lane immediately reported Katlyn missing to Hemlock Township police, setting off what would become a nine-day search filled with lies, misdirection, and a green metal box hiding a terrible secret.
A Husband’s Shifting Story
Authorities interviewed Katlyn’s husband, Vincent Harp, the next day. His timeline of events didn’t add up. He left out key locations and interactions, according to the criminal complaint. Surveillance video later showed him buying gloves at a gas station the day Katlyn vanished and driving with a green box in his truck bed.
On June 24, just days after police questioned him, Vincent sold a utility vehicle. When tested, the vehicle showed traces of human blood.
Meanwhile, police dug into his cell phone records. They discovered he’d been near a property he used to own twice on June 21.
The Sister Who Wouldn’t Quit
While police continued to piece together evidence, Heather Lane refused to sit at home waiting. On June 29 - nine days after Katlyn’s disappearance - she discovered a locked green metal box about 180 yards from a cliff on a densely wooded property formerly owned by Vincent.
She immediately called the troopers. When they arrived and cut the lock, they discovered Katlyn’s remains inside. A tattoo helped confirm her identity.
Justice Moves Swiftly
Just hours after Lane’s discovery, Vincent Harp was arrested and charged with criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence. He is being held without bail at Columbia County Correctional Facility.
Police confirmed the property where Katlyn’s body was found had belonged to Vincent until October 2023. According to arrest paperwork, he told Heather Lane that he and Katlyn had argued before she disappeared.
Vincent does not currently have a lawyer and is due back in court on July 14.
A Lesson in Persistence
The search for Katlyn Harp’s body might have ended differently if not for her sister’s relentless determination. Lane’s daily check-ins, refusal to believe convenient explanations, and insistence on combing through dense forest led police to the evidence that finally closed the case.
Her story is a reminder that sometimes, the person who won't give up is the one who finds the truth.
