Florida Man Beats Girlfriend With Baseball Bat and Lights Bed on Fire
By Robert W.. Feb 14, 2025
A Florida man is facing a series of serious charges after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend with a baseball bat during a violent rampage inside a motel room. Authorities say the woman, who suffered multiple skull fractures, is not expected to survive the injuries. The harrowing incident has led to charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery, arson, and false imprisonment.
A Day of Tensions Erupts in Violence
The attack unfolded on a Sunday afternoon in Room 235 at the Baymont Hotel in Kissimmee, Florida. According to the probable cause affidavit obtained by Law & Crime, Terell Fredrick Rodgers, 31, and his 25-year-old girlfriend were in the room with two other men when a heated argument broke out. One witness, John Zolyniak, said tensions flared after he offered the woman food, which angered Rodgers. The affidavit claims that Rodgers felt disrespected because his girlfriend was not engaging with him but responded to Zolyniak.

According to reports, he then grabbed a baseball bat and began smashing a television before turning the bat on his girlfriend. Another witness, Christopher Suraj Budhai, attempted to intervene, but Rodgers struck him as well, forcing him to retreat to the bathroom to hide with Zolyniak. The men told police that as they listened to the attack continue in the main room, they attempted to leave the bathroom to help the woman, but Rodgers prevented them from getting out. One of the men suffered a head injury that required stitches, while the other escaped without serious harm.
Victim Left in Critical Condition
The victim, who has not been named for confidentiality purposes, was left with catastrophic injuries, including multiple skull fractures and brain bleeding. Medical personnel have stated that her chances of survival are slim, and if she does pull through, she will likely face severe, lifelong impacts, according to PEOPLE. As she lay motionless on the floor, the witnesses emerged from the bathroom to help her, only to discover a fire that Rodgers had set on the bed. They managed to extinguish the flames before they could spread further.
A Chilling Confession
Rodgers did not flee the scene after the attack. When officers arrived, he allegedly confessed to the assault, stating he “just killed my son’s mom,” according to PEOPLE. According to the police report, Rodgers admitted that he and the victim smoked meth earlier that day and he was allegedly mad about “multiple issues.” He described the assault as a moment when he “felt like he was finally in control, getting [the victim] to listen to him,” as reported by PEOPLE. He also admitted that the violence gave him a “sense of pleasure.”
Later, Rodgers further detailed the brutal beating, explaining how he struck the woman in the head, face, arms, and legs as she tried to defend herself. While he described himself as “always abusive,” this attack was something more. “Today was a different anger,” he reportedly told police, according to Law & Crime.
Facing a Host of Charges
Rodgers is currently being held at the Osceola County Jail without bond. His charges include attempted homicide, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, arson, and false imprisonment. Court records have not yet indicated any pleas or the identity of Rodgers’ attorney.
