Florida Man Films 115 MPH Joyride - With Baby in Backseat
By Nikki Thrace. Jul 11, 2025
It started like any other summer Sunday on Florida’s I-75. But what troopers say happened next is the kind of story that makes headlines - and leaves drivers doing double takes at the speedometer.
A High-Speed Wake-Up Call
On June 22, Florida Highway Patrol officers say they clocked a car traveling at 115 mph near the Harborview Road exit in Charlotte County.
Behind the wheel was 29-year-old Charles Wheeler II. In the backseat? His girlfriend’s 10-month-old baby.
Authorities allege Wheeler was not just speeding but also weaving through traffic and tailgating other vehicles while using Snapchat behind the wheel.
During this dangerous stretch, officers say Wheeler narrowly avoided crashing into a mattress that had fallen into the road.
‘Good Vibes Only’ - Or So the Filter Said
After pulling Wheeler over, troopers arrested him and transported him to Charlotte County Jail on charges of reckless driving and child neglect.
While en route, Wheeler’s phone reportedly began blasting vulgar music in the patrol car.
When a trooper attempted to silence the phone, they discovered a Snapchat video allegedly filmed by Wheeler. It showed his vehicle’s speedometer reading 110 mph with a caption that read, “Good Vibes Only” - all while the 10-month-old sat in the backseat, according to Minq.
Jail records indicate Wheeler was released the following day after posting a $3,500 bond - $2,500 for the child neglect charge and $1,000 for reckless driving.
Authorities have not announced a court date, and it remains unclear whether Wheeler has legal representation.
What Happens Next?
As of July 3, the case remains open, and Wheeler has not entered a plea. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. The Florida Highway Patrol and the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office have not released additional details.
The alleged behavior - speeding, distracted driving, and transporting an infant without appropriate caution - has fueled public conversation about safety, accountability, and technology’s role in modern road risks.
