Delta Flight 154 was more than three hours behind schedule when it took off from Boston Logan International Airport at 12:12 a.m. on Aug. 18, 2024, on its way to Dublin, Ireland. About an hour into the journey, Cherilus got up from his seat and proceeded to urinate on an elderly woman seated nearby. He attributed his behavior to the effects of a sleeping medication that he took in preparation for the delayed flight. “In preparation for the unexpected overnight flight, I took a sleeping medication that I don’t normally use, which resulted in behavior that is not representative of my character,” Cherilus explained on social media, according to USA TODAY. “I would like to apologize to the passengers and flight crew.”

Despite his apology, Cherilus faces serious legal consequences. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of disorderly conduct, disturbing a flight crew, and resisting arrest. The incident not only caused a significant disruption for passengers but also led to a delay and the diversion of the flight back to Boston.

Delta’s ‘Zero Tolerance’ Response

Delta Air Lines responded to the incident by emphasizing their strict policy against unlawful behavior. A Delta spokesperson stated, “Delta has zero tolerance for unlawful behavior and will cooperate with law enforcement to that end. We apologize to our customers for the delay in their travel,” according to USA TODAY.
