Mandy Moore isn’t one to stay quiet when something doesn’t sit right. Recently, the “This Is Us” actress went after Amazon® for delivering a package to her in-laws’ Los Angeles home - except their house had already been reduced to rubble by the devastating Eaton Fire that swept through LA in January 2025.
A Delivery That Made No Sense
Moore didn’t just vent in private. She took her frustration straight to Instagram Stories on Feb. 11, 2025, posting a photo of the Amazon package sitting on what used to be the front steps of her in-laws’ home. The property had been completely leveled by the January wildfires.
“Do better, Amazon. Can we not have better discretion than to leave a package at a residence that no longer exists? This is my mother and father in law’s home. Smh,” she wrote over the image, according to PEOPLE.
Amazon Tries to Clean Up the Mess
Amazon wasted no time addressing the backlash. A company spokesperson told PEOPLE, “We’ve reached out to Ms. Moore via Instagram to apologize for this and to ask for more information from her in-laws so we’re better able to investigate what happened here.”
The company insisted that delivery personnel had been instructed to “use discretion in areas that were impacted by wildfires – especially if it involves delivering to a damaged home – that clearly didn’t happen here,” as reported by PEOPLE.
Moore’s Personal Wildfire Nightmare
This whole situation hit close to home - literally. Moore and her husband, musician Taylor Goldsmith, saw their Altadena property take a massive hit. The house still stands, but barely. The fire wiped out their garage, back house, and Goldsmith’s music studio, along with every instrument and piece of equipment inside.
Moore shared her heartbreak on Instagram, writing, “Everyone we know lost everything. Every house on our street is gone. My in laws. My brother and sister in law - 6 weeks from welcoming their first baby. Our best friends. Feeling weird survivors guilt,” as reported by PEOPLE.
Many people expressed their condolences on Moore’s social media accounts.
Not Everyone Had Sympathy
However, others on social media sided with Amazon. One TikTok user rhetorically asked where Amazon should have sent the package, other than the address on the order.
Moore also faced backlash when she shared a GoFundMe for her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, who lost their home in the fire. Some questioned why a celebrity would ask for donations.
She fired back in an Instagram post, writing, “And people questioning whether we’re helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money Google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic,” as reported by PEOPLE. “Of course we are. … No one is forcing you to do anything.”
The Bigger Picture
The Eaton and Palisades Fires devastated Los Angeles County, scorching nearly 40,000 acres and killing at least 29 people. Thousands of homes disappeared in flames, displacing entire communities.
Moore’s frustration with Amazon highlights just how chaotic recovery from a disaster can be. A mistake like this isn’t just inconvenient - it’s a stark reminder of what was lost. While Amazon apologized, the incident raises bigger questions about how companies handle logistics in disaster zones.
For now, Moore remains focused on helping her community rebuild. “We love this community and will do everything we can to help rebuilt and support,” she wrote on Instagram, according to PEOPLE. “Altadena strong.”
