Missing Student Likely Crushed and Incinerated After Passing Out in Trash
By Maria W.. Feb 13, 2025
The mysterious disappearance of 24-year-old Agostina Rubini Medina during a night out in Palma de Mallorca, Spain took a tragic turn as police revealed a horrifying theory about her fate. Medina, a student visiting the popular tourist destination, had been missing for over two weeks before investigators pieced together her final moments.
A Night Out Ends in Tragedy
Medina was last seen in the early morning hours of Oct. 3, 2024 after a night of partying with friends. Witnesses reported seeing her visibly intoxicated near a bus stop around midnight, where she stopped to buy a bag of chips. Her handbag and blouse were later found neatly arranged by a large trash bin nearby.
Police believe Medina may have accidentally dropped her phone into the trash and climbed into the bin to retrieve it. Tracking data from her phone showed it remained near the bin for about 30 minutes before being transported to an incineration plant, where it eventually died.
Police Piece Together a Timeline
As reported by the New York Post, according to Inspector Ángel Ruiz, “The main hypothesis is that she went into the container to get something and had the bad luck of feeling unwell inside the container.” Investigators theorize that Medina likely passed out in the trash bin due to a combination of alcohol and medication which impaired her tolerance. Tragically, she was then scooped up by a garbage truck, crushed in its compactor, and incinerated. This horrifying series of events unfortunately aligns with the garbage truck’s travel records and her phone’s location.
Police later discovered human skeletal remains in the ash at the incineration plant. While they are working to confirm the identity of the remains, they suspect they belong to Medina.
Investigators Work to Bring Closure
The tragic incident was likely influenced by Medina’s low alcohol tolerance, worsened by the medication she had been taking. Her death serves as a reminder of the serious risks associated with alcohol consumption.
According to the World Health Organization, as reported by Alcohol Help, alcohol is responsible for approximately three million deaths worldwide each year, accounting for 5.3% of all global fatalities. This means one in every 20 deaths globally is linked to alcohol-related diseases, injuries, or accidents.
As investigators work to formally identify the remains, Medina’s family and friends are left grieving her heartbreaking fate.
