After a 911 Suicide Call, Ohio Husband Faces Murder Charge
By Dana Whitfield. Mar 6, 2026
An Ohio man who called 911 to report his wife had died by “suicide” is now charged with murder months later, after investigators say the evidence didn’t match that first account.
The case centers on Rachel Long of London, Ohio, whose death in October 2025 was initially reported as a suicide emergency, according to an arrest warrant reviewed by PEOPLE.
Her husband, Kyle Long, 35, was arrested March 4 after a months-long investigation, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office announced, PEOPLE reported.
Who, What, When, Where
According to 10TV, deputies were called on October 23, 2025, to a home on State Route 187 in London for a reported suicide, and Rachel Long was pronounced dead at the scene.
PEOPLE reported that Kyle Long allegedly made the 911 call and told investigators he believed his wife had harmed herself.
But investigators later determined the medical findings and the accounts they reviewed did not align with suicide, PEOPLE reported, citing the warrant and autopsy details.
What Investigators Pointed To
PEOPLE reports the autopsy cited “multiple sharp force injuries,” and the warrant said there were at least 17.
The warrant also describes investigators reviewing Rachel’s recent communications with a friend and finding no indication she was planning to harm herself, according to PEOPLE’s reporting.
Just as significant, PEOPLE reports investigators concluded Kyle Long became a suspect after giving conflicting information and providing an account that did not align with what they observed at the scene.
Authorities have not publicly declared a motive, PEOPLE reported.
The Human Layer: A “New Chapter” Interrupted
In cases like this, the legal language can feel clinical-until you read how the people around the victim describe the days right before everything changed.
PEOPLE reported that investigators noted Rachel wanted a separation, and friends described her as excited about starting over.
That’s part of what makes the story so emotionally raw: a home that should have been a refuge becomes the center of a criminal investigation, and a call framed as “help” becomes part of what investigators scrutinize.
PEOPLE also reported that Rachel was a mother of two and owned a pet grooming and boarding business, details that have sharpened the community’s grief as the case moves into court.
Where the Case Stands Now
Kyle Long has been charged with murder, and a judge ordered that he be held on $1.5 million bond, according to PEOPLE, citing 10TV and other local reporting.
It was not immediately clear whether he has entered a plea, PEOPLE reported.
His attorney said Kyle Long denies harming Rachel, and described the death as a “horrible tragic event,” according to PEOPLE’s account of the statement.
As the legal process continues, the core tension remains the same: investigators say the timeline and findings don’t fit the story first given, while the defense disputes responsibility-leaving a family, friends, and a town living with questions that won’t be answered quickly.
