Husband, Wife Diagnosed With Stage 4 Cancer Days Apart
By Emmanuel Tredway. Jul 22, 2025
For Kevin and Wendy Wilson, the words “in sickness and in health” have never rung truer. The Alabama couple - together for 21 years, married for 18 - recently received life-changing news: both were diagnosed with stage 4 cancer within the same week. Instead of letting the diagnoses break them, the Wilsons are fighting back together, fueled by their love for each other and their four children. Their story, shared on TikTok, has touched thousands and inspired an outpouring of support.
2 Diagnoses, 1 Unimaginable Week
Wendy is no stranger to battling cancer. Since her first diagnosis in 2004, she has fought ovarian, cervical, and breast cancer. She underwent a double mastectomy in 2017 and had been in remission - until now.
This time, her breast cancer returned at stage 4, having spread to other parts of her body. And just days before learning of her own recurrence, Wendy’s husband, Kevin, was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer.
“He was told that he has stage 4 prostate cancer, and then, within a week later, I was told that my breast cancer had come back for a second time, and it is also stage 4, because it had spread to other areas of my body,” Wendy said in an interview with WSFA.
Sharing Their Journey With the World
Determined to document their fight and raise awareness, the Wilsons started a TikTok account, @ourcancerbattle, where they post video diaries chronicling their treatment, struggles, and moments of hope.
According to PEOPLE, in one of their first videos, Wendy quipped: “Cancer sucks. If you ever come to Millbrook, Alabama, don’t drink the Kool-Aid, ‘cause there’s gotta be something in the water.”
On their GoFundMe page, friends describe the Wilsons as “the kind of people who give without asking, who love without limits, and who never stop fighting for their family,” according to PEOPLE. That love, Wendy said, is what keeps her going.
Fighting for Their Family
For Wendy, her children are her greatest motivation.
“I’m not done seeing them grow,” she told WSFA. “I’m not done seeing them graduate high school, or continue the legacy of us, so, that’s my strength: showing them that no matter what you’re faced with, you have to meet it head on and do the best you can, and if you can’t you’re going to go down fighting.”
Their youngest daughter, Savannah, who is preparing to leave for military basic training, urged others to cherish their families and to support her parents in her absence.
“They need everything that they can get right now,” Savannah told WSFA.
Still Showing Up
Despite the grueling diagnoses and treatment plans ahead, the Wilsons continue working and striving to keep life steady for their family.
They are both “still working” their GoFundMe states, according to PEOPLE. They are “still showing up” and “still trying to keep their lives steady while the ground beneath them keeps shifting.”
Through it all, they remain determined to face the disease together and to keep inspiring others by sharing their journey.
