When actor Derek Dixon first entered Tyler Perry’s orbit, he thought he’d hit a career jackpot. But years later, Dixon’s relationship with the media mogul has taken a sharp and disturbing turn - straight into a Los Angeles courtroom.
The Allegations
Dixon, a former cast member on Perry’s BET drama “The Oval,” filed a lawsuit on June 13 in Los Angeles Superior Court, accusing Perry of sexual assault, harassment, and professional retaliation. The suit seeks $260 million in damages and outlines a series of alleged events beginning in 2019, when the two first met at a studio party hosted by Perry.
The actor claims Perry used his power in the entertainment industry to manipulate their relationship. According to the lawsuit, Perry promised career boosts - including producing a pilot Dixon had written - in exchange for Dixon tolerating and enduring unwanted sexual advances.
Inside the Lawsuit
The complaint details a series of incidents that, if true, paint a troubling picture. Dixon says Perry allegedly sent explicit text messages, one reading, “What’s it going to take for you to have guiltless sex?” as reported by the Associated Press.
He also claims Perry threatened his role on “The Oval,” implying his character would be killed off if he didn’t engage with the advances.
According to Dixon, things escalated from messages to physical encounters. The most serious accusation involves Perry allegedly groping Dixon and attempting to force himself on him at Perry’s home. The suit also claims Perry once entered Dixon’s guest room uninvited and climbed into bed with him.
The actor said he tried to keep his job and his distance but ultimately left the show after filing a complaint in 2024 with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. He alleges he lost approximately $400,000 in earnings after losing his role.
Perry’s Response
Tyler Perry, through his attorney Matthew Boyd, has denied the allegations, calling the lawsuit “a scam,” according to Vulture.
Boyd described Dixon as someone who ingratiated himself with Perry to exploit money from him and stated they are confident the “fabricated claims” will be dismissed, according to Vulture.
Boyd added that Perry would “not be shaken down” and characterized the relationship as a failed personal connection that Dixon is now using for financial gain.
What Comes Next
As of now, the court has not made any ruling on the case. No criminal charges have been filed, and the allegations remain just that - allegations. The case continues to unfold, and Perry’s team appears prepared to fight back.
This isn’t just another Hollywood controversy. It’s a story about power, ambition, and claims of manipulation - one that could have major implications for both men involved.
